Mom’s Pride :)
When my angels told me they also wanted to write, I was thinking, what topics will they be interested in? Will it be the usual Spongebob or Tom and Jerry antics? Will it be about school? about the bullies? about crushes? (they are 11 y/o and 9 y/o)…
I was also very curious as to how they think and how wide their understanding is. I also want to know if they have learned something from school as they will “write” down their thoughts. (watch out English, Filipino and Mandarin teachers hehehe)
As I always say, writing requires a command of the language, be it Filipino, English or Mandarin (the third language that they know… which unfortunately, I cant speak or write ^_^). Command means the use of words, the vocabulary, the subject and verb agreements, the proper punctuations and all the other rules.
As an educator, I believe in experiential learning. It’s the same belief I have as a mom. I want them to learn from what they experience. So I let them be. They write their hearts out and I just read. I suggest the corrections after they have posted the original work. If they agree, they change. If they have something in mind why the entry was written like that, then I respect the refusal for corrections.
In the age of jejemon and text messages, I am just so happy that my angels can still compose nice posts (patawad naman sa bias, syempre I am the mom, I would say good words about them hihihi….Sadly, sometimes they write better than some of my college students do sigh sigh sigh, I feel so bad about the state of education in our country)
